Coat of Arms of Liberia - The love of Liberty brought us hereRichly endowed with water, mineral resources, forests, and a climate favorable to agriculture, Liberia had been a producer and exporter of basic products - primarily raw timber and rubber. Local manufacturing, mainly foreign owned, had been small in scope.  Africa's first female president has the task of transforming these natural resources into physical wealth for the Liberian people.

Ellen Johnson took a swipe at the Liberian finance ministry by sacking the entire staff.  In her dramatic appearance before the Joint Session of the U.S. Congress, in an exclusive meeting with select members of U.S. Congressional Africa Subcommittee, before the U.N. Security Council, and at the World Bank, President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf recently responded to the numerous expressions of goodwill and financial pledges to jumpstart Liberia's postwar economy.
