Ghanaians Murdered In
Gambia For Rituals
Ghana may be heading for a collision course with The Gambia,
following the revelation that a number of Ghanaians were allegedly
murdered by the country's security agents on July 25, 2005. The
Ghanaians including eight other nationals from Nigeria, Senegal and
Togo met their untimely deaths in Gambia when the vehicle they were
travelling on to board a boat enroute to Europe from Senegal, was
diverted to the Gambia for unknown reasons.
Only eight of the bodies have so far been found as the rest are said
to have been disposed of in a very questionable circumstances.
Residents of Ghana Town in Banjul in The Gambia are suspecting
ritual murder involving highly placed people using security
personnel. Three other people are missing from the 53 people who set
off for the tortuous journey to Europe using ‘connection men." Daily
Guide learnt that the investigative team sent by President Kufuor to
the Gambia to unravel the circumstances that led to the death of the
Ghanaians, was dumbfounded when the team realised that the people
were victims of pre-meditated murder.
According to sources, no marks were found on some of the bodies
recovered, indicating that they might have been strangled to death
or injected with poisonous substances, reminiscent of the serial
killings that rocked Accra and its environs in recent past.
Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, foreign affairs minister and leader of
the delegation who called off a press conference last week on the
issue following a new development is expected to brief journalists
this week.
Reports say following the visit by the Ghanaian delegation, the
Gambian para-military forces have targeted Ghanaians in that country
for sending distress calls, necessitating the visit by the
Presidential delegation.
A number of Ghanaians are said to have been arrested and dumped at
the border town of Amdalai near Senegal with a warning never to
return to the Gambia. Other Ghanaians have also been incarcerated
over immigration offences at Serrekumda, the country's second
largest town, it has been learnt.
