Nigeria beats Libya 1-0, Ghana draws with Senegal in football friendly

Joinafrica.com, New York Correspondent - Nigeria`s Super Eagles beat their Libyan counterparts 1-0 in an international soccer friendly played in Tripoli Wednesday.  Ghana drew 0 - 0 with Senegal in London

Inter Milan and Nigerian striker Obafemi Martin scored the lone goal in the first half.

Libya came on strong in the second half, but poor finishing ruined its efforts to equalise.

The match, which featured a mixture of regular and new Super Eagles players, was part of Nigeria`s preparations for its two remaining fixtures in the 2006 World Cup/African Nations Cup qualifiers.

Star striker Nwankwo Kanu and old-timer Taribo West mingled with newcomers John Mikel Obi and Taiye Taiwo in a team put together by a trio of local coaches led by ex-international Austin Eguavoen.

A Super Eagles team comprising mainly home-based players walloped Benin Republic 6-0 in another friendly played in Abuja last week.

Nigeria will play away to Algeria and at home to Zimbabwe in September and October respectively in continuation of an increasingly tough quest for a fourth consecutive World Cup appearance.

The Ghanaian Team are hopeful of qualifying for the world cup after beating South Africa 3-0 and 2-0 respectively.
