Nigeria beats Libya 1-0, Ghana draws with Senegal in football

New York Correspondent - Nigeria`s Super Eagles beat their Libyan
counterparts 1-0 in an international soccer friendly played in
Tripoli Wednesday. Ghana drew 0 - 0 with Senegal in London
Inter Milan and Nigerian striker Obafemi Martin scored the lone goal
in the first half.
Libya came on strong in the second half, but poor finishing ruined
its efforts to equalise.
The match, which featured a mixture of regular and new Super Eagles
players, was part of Nigeria`s preparations for its two remaining
fixtures in the 2006 World Cup/African Nations Cup qualifiers.
Star striker Nwankwo Kanu and old-timer Taribo West mingled with
newcomers John Mikel Obi and Taiye Taiwo in a team put together by a
trio of local coaches led by ex-international Austin Eguavoen.
A Super Eagles team comprising mainly home-based players walloped
Benin Republic 6-0 in another friendly played in Abuja last week.
Nigeria will play away to Algeria and at home to Zimbabwe in
September and October respectively in continuation of an
increasingly tough quest for a fourth consecutive World Cup
appearance.
The
Ghanaian Team are hopeful of qualifying for the world cup after
beating South Africa 3-0 and 2-0 respectively.
